Multilingual Typesetting

If your company is required to label your products in both English and French for the Canadian market or distributes marketing or business materials to native speakers of multiple languages, you’re probably familiar with typesetting and the unique translation challenges it can pose. Typesetting involves the presentation of text in a graphic design format. In addition, other alphabets, right to left languages, and translation expansion can all affect how your final product will look.

Any Foreign Language

Our multilingual typesetting team can handle the typesetting of nearly any language on projects ranging from simple business cards to complex multilingual texts of various designs. We have experience translating most Asian and European languages, including languages that read right to left like Arabic, Farsi, and Hebrew.

The Process from Translation to Typesetting

LingoStar’s services will help identify and offer solutions for any problems that may arise from multilingual typesetting and translation. We offer a comprehensive package from text translation to typesetting into the desired graphic format. Also, our software includes InDesign, Quark XPress, Adobe Illustrator, PageMaker and more, on both Mac and PC platforms. We also work with Microsoft Office, Publisher and Front Page. We gladly provide vector outlines or .eps formats of translated files to clients upon request as well.

Post-Insertion Review

Once the translation and design is completed, typeset versions are checked again by the original human translators during a post-insertion review. The translators will proofread for typing errors, corrupted characters or misplacement of text, ensuring your foreign language materials are print-ready and linguistically correct.

Word Expansion in Translations

One of the biggest challenges for typesetting is language expansion, which occurs when languages have words of different lengths. Therefore, it is important to bear in mind how the final product may look in two different languages. In order to avoid problems, be sure to leave enough space for the specific language expansion rate in your template. Languages to watch out for language expansion include Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian.
